Sending Kids to College - Empty Nester Advice for Text Messaging

Seems our college kids are always bz (busy) these days however, they still like to know we are thinking of them. As kids are finding their way they want to hear from us, but sometimes feel bad because they want to be brief. I am so glad there is texting options because when I went to college our doorm floor had one pay phone on the floor. You had to wait to make a call...including calling home. Often we wanted to say something quick but could not call at the moment because the phone was for after school or was not in use (not working!). By the time I'd get to the phone the fun thing was over to share with family back home and I was doing other things. It was funny too because you had to stay in one place...the old pay phone styles on the wall! (Never mind how long ago...now let's talk about 2009!)
The new way of communication with Text Messaging is great because not only can my kids send me a quick message, but I can also send a quick fun photo or message just to say hi! It is so "IN" to send these kind of messages and our kids respond well to them, more than leaving long voice mail messages. It is not always the best way to communicate because many details are left out, however, it is a great tool to send or receive a thoughtful "how are you" or How ru? Communication is brining people closer so parents jump in and "nj" Enjoy!
Just a note. Here are just a few shorcut messages... if you want to add and share please do! How r u doing? I know ur bz just wanted to say hi. What's the 411? (What is the information?) BTW (By the way) def miss u. (Definitley miss you) G4I (Go for it) J4F (Just for fun)....thought i'd say hi !
The best...ILU.... We all know that one!
